Past Tours to Europe and beyond

 Perugia 2-5 May 2014

Perugia, 2014

We had a wonderful tour to Perugia. We gave concerts in in the Basilica of the Collevalenza Sanctuary on 3 May 2014; and another in the world-famed Basilica San Francesco in Assisi, a World Heritage site of 4 May. The programme included Charles Gonoud’s Messe solennelle de Sainte Cécile (“St. Cecilia Mass”); Gabriel Fauré’s Cantique de Jean Racine (“Hymn of Jean Racine”); as well as shorter choral worsk by Ludovico da Viadana, Cesar Franch, and Giuseppe Ottavio Pitoni. The musical director for the tour was Michael Bowden, supported by Michael Waldron as organist. Soloists for the concert were Simone Mace (soprano), Peter Mitchell (tenor), and Michael Chambers (bass).

Budapest 4-7 May 2012

We had a really great tour, two excellent concerts (standing ovation on Sunday – probably helped by singing Kodaly’s Esti Dal in Hungarian as an encore), an amazingly beautiful, diverse and grand city to tour  around, fabulous breakfasts and excellent ‘welcome buffet’ in a very clean, smart, and comfortable hotel (maybe apart from the stag-nighters!) , rounded off with a really successful dinner cruise on our own boat down the Danube to a backdrop of Budapest by night – stunning. Well done to everyone and in particular Liz and Tricia on the tour committee, Michael our conductor and our organist John March, Marta Lindop our tour guide and concert promoter, and soloists Szutrély Katalin – soprano from Budapest and Chris Hunter – Baritone.

There are some more photos on the choir’s “Islington Choral Society Members – Past & Present” Facebook page – please feel free to add any photos, videos, recordings that you may have from the tour on the Facebook group page (either add directly or link to your own Facebook page). If anyone has uploaded photos to Flickr or other sharing sites, please let us know by email and we will add links here.
