About Us

Islington Choral Society is a lively, friendly, non-auditioned performing group of choral singers based in Islington, North London.
We rehearse every Tuesday night in Highbury Baptist Church on the edge of Highbury Fields. Where, when and transport details here.
If you’re interested in joining the choir that’s great – you can find details on the Join page, also on the menu at the top of this page.
ICS performs three times a year at a range of venues, mostly within the London Borough of Islington. Our musical repertoire is varied. It often includes some of the most famous, fun and challenging choral pieces. A question we’re often asked is whether we are a church choir. The answer is no, we’re not, we are a community choir. Having said that churches are usually where we rehearse and perform and a lot of the music for large choirs is, historically, to do with religious events (just so you know).

However we also perform newly commissioned works and some interesting less-well-known pieces, from old favourites like Handel’s Messiah to new challenges like Fanshawe’s African Sanctus, from Rutter’s soaring Gloria to Mendelssohn’s majestic Elijah, from the peace of Fauré’s Requiem to the liveliness of Orff’s Carmina Burana, our repertoire is varied and exciting.
